Sometimes it’s easy to forget that books aren’t just for adults. Second-hand book stores and Waterstones fill every block of London, but almost all of them predominately aim at selling to more mature audiences. While some have children’s book sections, there are very few that sell books solely to grab the interest of kids.
That, however, is exactly what Book Ends does.
Since 2007, Book Ends has been nestled on the edge of Exmouth Market in Islington, enticing children and their families with colourful illustrations and fantastic tales that sparked a love for reading in many of us today.
They have a wide selection ranging from classics such as Where the Wild Things Are to more advanced non-fiction stories. There are also a variety of pop-up books, activity books and children’s DVDs. Derek East, a helper at Book Ends, often suggests I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen for its clever illustrations and humour.
Additionally, if you venture downstairs, you’ll find a selection of craft and origami books for children and adults. If you know a child who aspires to be a future baker on The Great British Bake Off, there are a couple of cook books to help get you started.
Whether you’re seeking a gift for a kid; a new fun, family experience; or a bit of nostalgia, Book Ends is sure to have something that will suit your tastes.
